Chapter Eight

“When are you coming back to the clubhouse?” Saint asked Devil.

Saint had called just when Devil was grabbing breakfast for him and Destiny. Since she cooked them dinner last night, Devil wanted to return the favor and take care of breakfast. It had been a long time since he sat down for a meal with a woman.

More often than not, he ate with his MC brothers in the clubhouse. He spent plenty of time working jobs with them, too. The MC was his life, his number-one priority, or it used to be. Everything would change the moment Destiny entered his life. He could feel it in his bones.

He wasn’t entirely comfortable leaving her all alone in the trailer, but no one had come after them last night. Devil had gotten maybe three to four hours of sleep because he kept leaving the bed to check their surroundings. The sooner they get the hell out of River Dawn, the better. Once they were back in Devil’s backyard, on Fallen Saints MC’s turf, he’d be able to let his guard down.

“Devil, you there?” asked Saint, sounding annoyed.

Keeping one hand on his phone, Devil swiped the brown take-out bags from the diner counter with his other hand. He gave the waitress a nod. Devil then exited the diner and placed the items in the back compartment of his bike.

“Tonight,” Devil replied. “There’s something else I haven’t told you, bro.”

“What’s that?”

“I forgot to mention one little thing last night.” Might as well get the truth out in the open. Saint was waiting for his answer. “Skull added a woman to sweeten the deal.”

Saint swore in the background. “Is that why he asked for more guns than the agreed number? What’s so special about this bitch?”

“Careful, brother.” Devil made sure Saint heard the warning in his voice. “She’s important to me.”

He didn’t make threats lightly, especially not to Saint. He knew he was treading on uneven ground right now. It was Saint, the President of the Fallen Saints MC he was talking to, not the blood brother he grew up with.

Saint was silent for a few moments.

“You know me,” Devil continued. “I don’t make hasty decisions.”

“Usually.”

“The extra AK-47s, you can take out of my paycheck. I need you to do something else for me.”

“After you botched the deal, you’re still asking a fucking favor from me?”

“Yeah. Once Destiny and I arrive, I want you to get Father Michael.”

“Why the hell would you need a priest for? So I could have Father Mike say your last rights?”

Christ. Saint sounded really pissed off, but who could blame his brother? Saint sent him out here because he trusted Devil. Unlike his other MC brothers, Devil didn’t cave under pressure, he didn’t resort to violence unless it was necessary. Devil didn’t let emotions get in the way of negotiations, but Destiny was an exception.

“So he can marry me and Destiny. I intend to make her my old lady, Saint.” Rings. Devil wanted to do everything properly. Maybe they could stop by a pawn shop and he’d let her pick their wedding bands.
